Being long-distance from your partner stinks, and it stinks even more when you aren’t able to go on fun summer vacations like other couples. My boyfriend and I are long-distance, and while we text every morning and night, call and FaceTime semi-regularly, and try to be good about establishing when we’ll see each other again, I can’t help but want to plan a fun getaway!
When one of my neighbors said she was taking a two-week sabbatical in Italy, she asked if I could put together a list of fun things to spruce up her wardrobe for the trip. OF COURSE! Secretly, I’m planning my own fun European vacation, but I’ll have to save the wine and pasta for another summer—
- Castaner Carina wedges. These might seem very French, but espadrilles started in Spain, so I think it’s okay to wear them gallivanting all over Europe and beyond! These are great for wearing on a wine tour AND biking. That flat sole means you won’t fall over after a glass… or two.
- Linen jumpsuit (I like this one from Reformation)— add nice layered jewelry to dress it up or a scarf around your hair to dress it down. So many shoe options here, too— a pump for something dressier, sneakers for totally casual. I love the idea of this + sneakers + a denim jacket or a shawl for a morning cafe run.
- My favorite Steven Madden sandals; the denim colorway is fun, but the raffia is my favorite and a great wardrobe staple.
- A thin-strap tank. Pair with a silky skirt and pumps to go out for drinks or with high-waisted denim and espadrilles or flats for an elevated-casual look.
- I’m usually a neutrals girl, but this dress from Farm Rio would be incredible for any night out dancing, getting dinner al fresco, or if you want to dress up for a wine tour.
- Fun sunnies because statement sunnies are ALWAYS needed!
- A breezy linen button-down to wear over the linen jumpsuit, with a skirt, over a bathing suit, etc.
- Structured shorts. I saw a pair of similar shorts on Grace Atwood a year ago (or more) and haven’t stopped thinking about them since. I plan to wear mine with espadrilles, mules, or woven babies/pumps and a tee! Easy but classic.
- Something versatile for walking, biking, hiking, etc. A skort will never steer you wrong. You can ‘dress it cute’ if you’re going to explore in town or sporty for a day of hiking.
- A tote bag for all of your fun tchotchkes. If you’re going to travel, you have to bring back mementos, right?!
I’m ready for a relaxing week in the sun with no priorities other than picking where I want to grab my next cup of coffee and a pastry. These pieces make traveling fun and easy; they’re versatile, flowy, and perfect for warm weather.
I hope this post gives you some inspiration for your next getaway!
