Unexpected Breaks and Unexpected Inspiration

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last Friday Finds post! I’m sorry I’ve left you all hanging in the balance since then.

This last month has been full of travel, new routines, rekindled hobbies, and a lot of Poshmarking.

Coming back from Florida— where we were visiting my family— left me with a deep longing for something I felt like I had abandoned before even truly getting to know. I had my seasonal color analysis done back in August with the incredible Natalie Peters of District Color and it felt very affirming at the time— I had always known I was some kind of warm-toned something-or-other… but once the fall rolled around and I was wearing more layers and piecing more things together, I code-switched hard back into blacks and greys as the temperatures cooled off.

That was great for a while. I felt bold and sophisticated in black velvet around the holidays; I rocked a red lip with confidence; I snuggled up into a navy blue sweater of my husband’s constantly. Yet, I felt so. incredibly. bored.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been interviewing at new jobs and trying to lean in a little more to my styling business. I love clothes, and I love how they make people feel… but when that’s the only thing you talk about all day it gets really old really quickly. It was a great reminder that loving something doesn’t mean there is no other nuance to your enjoyment; to love something does not mean that don’t explore other hobbies. I’ve seen a few articles/mentions of the people with the best style are often the ones whose day-to-day lives don’t have much, if anything, to do with fashion at all.

I feel like I have this “stroke of genius” every couple of weeks, and never truly act on it. So this time I tried: I weeded the entirety of the front plot of our apartment building and then mulched over the area which breathed new life into the space. I’ve been looking for secondhand art to put in the landing spaces of the apartment building to replace outdated, sad pieces that are currently there. I’ve gotten back into running, albeit very slowly (literally).

If the last few weeks have taught me anything, it’s that a sabbatical is great when you have other things to occupy your time but they can be isolating and dull if that energy isn’t properly channeled.

Mitch talked about going to get hamburgers tonight, and I’m thrilled— it’s an exciting weekend: beautiful, temperate weather nestled between rainy weekdays; a baby shower of a dear friend of mine; mass where we’ll hear the name of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV for the first time. So below, I want to share a few images that have been inspiring me lately and would love to hear in the comments below what’s inspiring you!
