If you had to answer, how often do you shop on secondhand websites or at consignment/Goodwill shops? There’s a plethora of goodies that swirl around the interwebs on sites like Depop, Poshmark, The Real Real, etc. that are waiting to be found, bought, and worn proudly! While it can be difficult and sometimes overwhelming to find things that fit perfectly or are the right price, the serotonin rush when you find something that you fall in love with can’t be beat.
Secondhand sites are often the first place I go when I see something I like— I describe myself as having champagne taste on a Busch Lite budget, and I’m proud of that! I like nice things, but rarely do I want to pay full price. If you don’t mind being a season or two behind on trends, buying secondhand is a great way to get your hands on higher quality items (what a buzzword on social media right now…) without the high price tag.
I’m trying to commit to more regularly posting things like these Friday Finds where I share the beautiful items I’m coming across on secondhand sites— I hope some of you are able to get your hands on these beauties!
~As you may know, buying secondhand can be great when you find something, but it won’t last if you don’t snatch it up! At the time of publication all of these pieces were available, but things may sell out… so don’t let something get away from you if you have your eye on it!~
Feeling like your pants need a refresh for the winter? If you’re like me and kind of dreading the temperatures rising again (I’m not saying I don’t like warm weather, but I comparatively struggle to dress for it!), hold fast to winter dressing with leather pants. These are a 50/50 leather and polyurethane mix, which will be more breathable than a full polyurethane cut. However, if you’re looking for a few more options try this or this one!
Of course you can carry canvas in the winter! Even better, this tote is perfect for warmer-weather vacations. It’s slightly above the $200 mark, but it’s a beautiful bag and the only one I found online! I appreciate the seller having a picture of the scale of the bag compared to her body/over her shoulder. That’s really helpful when trying to figure out if the bag is going to be the size you think it is! This could be a beautiful work bag or something more casual!
3. Double-Buckle Leather Belt
I have a very similar belt to this made by Etienne Aigner that I love! It’s so versatile; you can wear it with dresses, skirts, or high waisted pants. I love it belted over a cardigan with a long skirt! I do believe this belt is mildly adjustable, so you can get the perfect fit depending on how you’re trying to wear it (i.e. over or under something)! Here are two options in black (1, 2); an option in chocolate croc; and one in caramel brown!
4. Mesh Low-Cut Mary Jane Flats
I’ve never seen this brand before, but these flats are COOL. They have this deep cut that borders a d’orsay flat, and with the mesh and capped square toe, they feel like they could be a much more expensive designer brand! Perfect for cold weather days? No. But if you’re someone who wears commuter shoes and changes at the office, these are perfect for you! Here’s a size 38.5, another that’s a size 39, and a 38.5 in ballet pink.
5. High Neck Bell Sleeve Sweater
This sweater looks so cozy! Throw it on with a pair of the leather trousers mentioned earlier or maybe a pair of cozy knit pants. I’ve never owned anything from A.L.C, but I’m thoroughly impressed that this is 100% merino wool! If you can snag it for less than $200, sometimes it’s worth a little extra splurge for a fun shape, pattern, or detail. This has a number of those qualities— the funnel neck, the wide sleeves, and the interesting knit pattern. Here it is in a size Small, in a Medium, and in a Large!
Can you tell I really like this brown color? I’m also the biggest ballet flats fan you’ll probably ever meet. I think they’re just the best! Maybe it’s a desire to dress like Audrey Hepburn, but I don’t think flats paired with cigarette pants will ever steer you wrong! Try these with a pair of black pants, a cream turtleneck, and a houndstooth blazer!
The Real Real has really been going for my wallet lately, and this bag put up a respectable fight to be added to cart! I thought this was going to be a Ferragamo when I first saw the tiny preview image. Olive is a neutral, and no one can tell me otherwise, especially when it comes to leathers and/or accessories! Pull autumnal colors all the way through the year with this versatile bag! **Note, bags on TRR are final sale; however, you can add a return guarantee that allows for possible returns. This is another, cheaper option from a different brand.
Don’t want something quite as bold as the A.L.C. sweater? Looking for something you can wear well into the spring instead? Try this 100% wool sweater from Tuckernuck. It appears to originally come with a dickey (that’s the collar poking out), but I like that the listing doesn’t include it! I think you could easily offer less (this sweater has been sitting for a while) and then layer your own collared shirts underneath!
Meghan Donovan of Wit & Whimsy has these boots and I’ve been mercilessly stalking a pair in my size… unfortunately, I have yet to find them. I recently returned the pair of Margaux Downtown Boots that I bought (would y’all like to hear more about this and why I returned them? Let me know!), and I’ve been looking for something that is a little slimmer through the ankle. These fit that description beautifully, and I don’t mind that they’re 3.5″ heels. They’re definitely a dinner/office boot and not something I’d want to take a hike across town in, but that doesn’t make them any less functional. Here’s an option in a 9.5 and one in a 7 (slightly above $200 as the original ones sold) and here is one in a size 10!
Being friends with so many (and now married to a) Midwesterners, I hear a lot about “second winter.” I didn’t think we got anything like that too badly over the last few years of living in Virginia; however, I could absolutely see that being the case this year after this insane weather we’ve been having. I still can’t get over the fact my family got snow in Florida!!!! Anyways, if you’re looking for a new coat— or already eyeing your picks for next year— I love this one from Barbour! Here is a size 14 as well!
If you purchase anything from these posts, I’d love to hear about it! Let me know in the comments what you’re eyeing or if you’re looking for anything in particular!
