Friday Finds: Secondhand Steals Under $300

If I had a dollar for every time one of my friends said, “I’m looking for XYZ item, I wish I could find it somewhere!” and I magically pull out a link to the item (or something similar) on Poshmark, The Real Real, or some other secondhand site, I’d be a millionaire! An old acquaintance used to ask “what are you hunting for today?” when we’d chat, because I’m always browsing secondhand sites. It’s fun, and I enjoy the thrill of the hunt…!

The minimalist movement and conversations about over consumption have loomed large in my life over the last few years. It can be incredibly disheartening to see something on a blogger, TikTokker, or Instagrammer and realize it’s out of your price-range or it’s from three seasons ago. That’s the beauty of using resale sites! Often times you can find those exact items (or really, really similar ones) for a fraction of their original cost. I’d love to talk more in-depth about how I use secondhand websites to shop and find pieces I love, so let me know if you’d like to hear more about this!

This week, I wanted to share some beautiful pieces that I found while I was browsing. These are under $300, and while I recognize that is expensive, most of these are designer brands so the discount is hefty!!!

As you may know, buying secondhand can be great when you find something, but it won’t last if you don’t snatch it up! At the time of publication all of these pieces were available, but things may sell out… so don’t let something get away from you if you have your eye on it!

1. Leather Top-Handle Bag

I almost didn’t want to share this one, because this bag is beautiful. It’s in “Good” condition, meaning there is some wear. If that’s not quite your style, try this one from Gianni Versace. Either would be a fabulous option for work, or a more elevated daytime shoulder bag. I think the Valentino can go a lot more casual, so if that’s your thing I would be eyeing that option!

2. Oval Vintage-Style Sunglasses

Is there anything more quintessentially chic than oval sunglasses? Probably not. While I won’t be straying from my favorite and trusty-dusty Amazon sunglasses, if you’re the type of girl who likes to own multiple pairs and can do so without losing any, firstly I salute you. Secondly, here are three great options from DMY, Gucci, and Tiffany & Co.!

3. Quilted Wide-Sleeve Jacket

If you’re looking for a unique piece that stands out from other quilted jackets on the market, this one takes the cake! I love that it comes with a little bucket hat too (my sister rocks them… I absolutely do not.).  This brand is a surplus seller brand of Max Mara, so you know you’re getting some good stuff with this one!

4. Leather Mary-Jane Flats

Just so y’all know, if these were my size I definitely would not have shared them, ha! I have had my eye on these Mary Janes forever! Gianvito Rossi makes this same flat in a number of different colors, but if you’re looking for a staple piece, black will never steer you wrong.

5. Striped Button-Front Sweater

Sézane is trending everywhere for a reason: they have good quality knits (materials and construction), and they have that effortless French je nais se quois that many of us are looking for and desperately want to emulate. This striped cotton sweater is well-loved by the women who own it— it’s often referenced as a core piece to buy in the Sézane Facebook groups and Reddit discussion boards. Here’s another size Medium!

6. Gucci Loafer Mules

I know we were just talking about what to wear when your thermometer says, “don’t go outside, it’s too cold,” but I can’t help myself! Mules are one of those items that scream chic to me, and there is none better than the OG Gucci Princeton leather mule. If you’re looking for a new loafer style this spring but weren’t sure what you wanted to grab, let it be these! P.S., here’s a pair in red leather, and I am drooling over them!

7. Leather A-Line Midi Skirt

Need to add a little wintery pizzaz to your office dressing? Try a leather skirt. I feel like there’s so many combinations you could make with this, like a grey button-down cardigan + leather skirt; chunky striped knit sweater + leather skirt; white baby tee + lady jacket + leather skirt; or grey sweatshirt + leather skirt! Take a look at option 1, option 2, and option 3!

8. Double-Breasted Boyfriend Blazer

I’ll never forget the first time I tried on a Veronica Beard blazer. I’d heard about the brand plenty from reading Grace Atwood’s blog, The Stripe, and honestly thought it was overhype for a high-end brand… no. The blazers are that good. While most things are oversized on me because I’m petite, you could tell the cuts were all there, it felt weighty in all the right ways… oh, so good!

I like this one’s casual flair with the pre-scrunched sleeves, but if you’re looking for one that you can dress up and down, try this black option with full sleeves! This oversized version from Reformation is also great, and this one from Vince is a steal!

9. Lug Sole Platform Boots

I cannot explain to you guys how badly I want to find these boots in my size… Madewell make a similar pair, but they’re not quite it. I’ve scoured everywhere, and did manage to find just these two pairs but unfortunately for me (and maybe fortunately for you!) they were not my size! With the lug sole, these are great for wintery conditions! Here is one in brown, and another in black!

10. Plaid Double-Breasted Coat

Initially I had a very different coat in mind from this brand to try to find secondhand for a post like this… I didn’t find what I was looking for, but this plaid wool coat was honestly even better than I could have originally anticipated! This coat is relaxed without swallowing the wearer, and the houndstooth plaid is a beautiful neutral combination of tan, grey, and black.
