The transition into autumn always feels abrupt— it seems like we go almost instantaneously from summer sun dresses and open-toed sandals to sweaters, layers, and boots. I’m not complaining… over the last few years, I’ve come to savor the transitory seasons and have tried, albeit mostly in vain, to learn to layer like someone who knows what they’re talking about.
One thing I love most about transitional seasons is how unique dressing can be. In the summertime, certain things become more ubiquitous: certain cuts of sundresses, shoes (this year being the year of the mesh flats), bote and tote bags, etc., but when the leaves start to change, dressing day-to-day seems to become more personalized, showing off unique interests, hobbies, personal statements on the world around us. Something about it makes dressing fun again, but maybe that’s just because I love a good layering moment.
I’ve created four mini-capsules for different styles to showcase how I think about dressing for the new season. While I tried to keep things a mix of high and low, there are some fun aspirational pieces in there too! While they’re way out of reach for now, they’re always fun to see utilized in new and exciting ways!
