Friday Finds: Winter Staples Under $200

A note before we dive in: This post was written and prepped for publishing before I knew about the January 30th strike. The ethos of this blog, and my musings in ‘Thoughtfully Considered,’ is to sit with, contemplate, and slowly curate the things around us— art, fashion, music, food, friends, etc.. I feel that it’s important to remind ourselves that browsing is not antithetical to taking a pause from making purchases; rather, it can help us slow down, consider more thoughtfully our actions, our words, and where our money is being spent. I hope you enjoy this post.

——-

After last week’s storm, I really should have made THIS the “winter essentials for a snowstorm” post, because I was not expecting the amount of snow, slush, and ice, or the freezing temperatures we’ve had the rest of the week.

Neighborhoods across the city have turned into miniature ice-skating rinks, and I fell twice on my walk to coffee on Wednesday (thank you to the insanely stylish and beyond kind Xander Johnson for taking me home!!!). It’s a bit of a treacherous commute!

Thankfully, we kept power all through the weekend’s weather and have been able to wrap up inside, watch shows, read books, drink way too much coffee, eat baguettes with lots of butter, and basically just cocoon ourselves in the house.

It’s honestly been great!

But when we did venture out, it was to support the businesses in our local community that weren’t getting the same swell of customers they might otherwise— lunch crowds from businesses that were keeping employees working from home, baguettes from our favorite boulangerie a few blocks away, etc.— so we’d get ourselves dressed and out we went!

If you’re looking for winter staples that are going to get you through Zoom meetings, keep you upright as you shuffle across ice, quick lunches before you have to steel yourself against the bitter cold once more, I’ve got just the thing for you!

Below are some of my favorite pieces I’ve found on The Real Real for your cozy winter wardrobe to get you through the next round of wintery weather.

1. Cashmere Joggers Set

I’m not normally one for a sweats set, but this cashmere set from Naadam really caught my eye. Maybe it’s just that I’m in a very cozy mood right now with all the snow and cold weather, or maybe it’s that I’m just taking winter a little bit slower; either way, something about this set feels so luxe to me!

2. Cashmere Scarf

Sometimes simple is best, and that’s why a cashmere scarf will never steer you wrong. I love the speckled pattern on this one, as it’ll go with so many different sweaters, dresses, and coats!

3. Oversized Patterned Sweater

There’s something about the snow that makes me really love a thick, patterned sweater; it makes me think of snow, a cozy cabin, and steaming mugs of hot chocolate! While the pattern is prominent on this sweater, its colorway is still fairly muted and can go with a variety of pieces.

4. Lug Sole Ankle Boots

If you’re trying to add a more practical boot to your wardrobe, this is a great option! These have a tighter shaft so they’ll keep out unwanted cold (or snow, if you’re like me and accidentally dump it in your shoes while shoveling!). I love the dark olive green, too; it’s a great way to add a little bit of subtle color into the winter.

5. Chic Hairpin

Why a hair pin? I don’t know about you, but sometimes I am not in the mood to deal with static-filled hair after it’s been rubbing on my sweater or scarf, and it’s easier to throw my hair up. Or, if you love a high-collared turtleneck sweater, those updos with curtain bangs hanging down are always so chic.

6. Satin Wide-Leg Pants

Satin and silk wide leg pants are everywhere right now, and for great reason. This silhouette is universally flattering, and the pants are easy to dress up or down.

7. Lug Sole Tall Boots

Need something a little warmer than the ankle-height lug sole boots? Try these! Lined with shearling and up to the knee, these boots are a fabulous addition that will have no trouble keeping you warm.

8. High-Waisted Trousers

One thing I always swear by when working from home is getting dressed in “outside” clothes. That means putting on an outfit that felt like I could toss shoes on and run out the door at any moments’ notice and feel great. A pair of high-waisted trousers is great for that!

9. Leather Top-Handle Bag (with shoulder strap)

Every girl needs a great purse, even in unprecedented wintery weather. This black leather Coach bag feels so chic, tailored, and sophisticated without being too harsh or severe. I also love that it comes with a shoulder strap for easier wear.

10. Simple Black Leather Belt

Through your belt loops, over a coat or blazer, around a dress, you name it and the little black belt has done it! They come in all shapes and sizes, but I think one this size is a great daily-driver and perfect to use in all of the scenarios listed above!

11. Cinched-Waist Puffer Jacket

If you’re like me and still want to get in your daily walks or workouts while it’s frigid outside, sometimes it takes a little pre-warming to get you motivated. Well, what’s better to motivate than a cute outfit?!

xx happy hunting!
