This time of year often brings with it ever-changing temperatures (for example, it was 45 yesterday, 65 today, and 50 tomorrow, set to repeat that same order over the next two weeks), and those temperatures often leave me wondering what to wear for fear of being too hot, too cold, or left without a necessary outer-layer if it starts to drizzle. This is also when I start to introduce a little more color into my wardrobe!
There are plenty of articles, creators, and blogs that say you should be mindful to stand out from a crowd and keep color in your wardrobe during the winter, but I love leaning into neutrals as long as I can! As the spring weather moves in, I love to integrate a little bit of color over the next few months so that by the time I get to summer, I’m ready for an abundance of color!
Here are a few things I found that are under $300 that would be great additions to any wardrobe looking to take a slow ease into spring!
~As you may know, buying secondhand can be great when you find something, but it won’t last if you don’t snatch it up! At the time of publication all of these pieces were available, but things may sell out… so don’t let something get away from you if you have your eye on it!~
I recently saw a beautiful tan and crimson sweater at Banana Republic the other day, but it was well outside the price range I wanted to pay and I hoped I could find it secondhand. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it (yet) anywhere secondhand, but I did find this beautiful La Ligne sweater on The Real Real! I love the button details on the shoulders, and the lined details that make the red stand out. I think it would look beautiful layered under #2!
I have had my eye on this trench for a little while, but the price is an absolute “no” for me! I found only one on Poshmark for a fraction of the original retail price. There are many other variations of cropped trenches out there, and honestly I can’t say that this one is better than one that comes from Zara or Mango or wherever (because it’s 100% polyester); however, I originally saw this on McKenzie DePinto and thought that it was one of the better silhouettes I’ve seen!
I’m a ride-or-die girl with my trusty Amazon sunglasses (I’ve been wearing these for over 5 years now!) but I’m always jealous of people with sunglasses collections or who swap styles out on a consistent basis. I’m especially a fan of oversized sunglasses, like these from Le Specs! There are both brown and black options available!
Is a Mary Jane a ballet flat, or its own, specific thing? While I’m not totally sure of the answer, I know that I love them! I saw a similar pair from Celine saved in my Obsessions on The Real Real, and found these from Marc Fisher (a brand I love!!!) for pennies, comparatively.
5. Houndstooth Plaid Barn Jacket
I feel like I keep seeing this jacket in all of the “must have” lists from different bloggers and publications like Vogue! Yes, I did go a little above the $300 limit here, but the seller mentions in comments that she’s open to offers, so I’m taking that at face value and assuming she’ll come down! If you’re looking for a barn jacket for spring, this is a great option that maintains that cool, off-duty model look while retaining the original sense of functionality barn jackets are known for!
Like I mentioned in the opening, I’m not trying to jump straight into pastels for spring, so I like grounding looks with black denim! Personally, I really like a raw hem… which is probably because I’ve just come to whacking off the bottom of my jeans when they’re too long for my inseam… and this rigid denim from Re/Done is great when you want something that will feel effortless and timeless!
I think most people have moved on from these being the “it” shoe, but I still really love this silhouette! I prefer them to be this all-over neutral when compared to some of the options that have a higher level of contrast, but that’s because I feel like you can wear the all-over neutrals more easily with skirts or dresses. Here’s one option, and another is here!
8. Olive Green Lightweight Trench
I bought this coat from Clementine here in Richmond at the beginning of the fall, and I am so thankful I did! It has very quickly become a beloved item in my wardrobe even though I desperately need to take it to get the sleeves shortened (oh, how I wish that wasn’t an issue)! I can’t recommend it enough! I wouldn’t pay full price for it, given that the material makeup does not, in my opinion, beget the full retail price; however, snagging it secondhand is totally worth it!
9. Newsboy Cap
Did you binge the last season of Emily in Paris as quickly as we did? Even Mitch’s best man loved the show! Something else well loved in Emily in Paris? All of the hats, especially those by Ruslan Baginskiy! If you’re like me and have hair that doesn’t want to cooperate when the weather shifts, especially in the rain, wearing a hat can be a big help! I’m still on the hunt for my perfect hat, but this could be yours!
10. Chocolate Croc Leather Crossbody
Do you ever get annoyed at how bulky crossbody bags can be? I have this problem with one of my Sézane bags– it’s beautiful, but it can be tedious to carry since your arms won’t skim across it easily. I usually counteract this by carrying a coffee in-hand for as long as possible so that my arm stays bent, ha! This bag eliminates that bulk with a streamlined silhouette! I love that you can carry it by the handle instead of wearing the chain as well— it makes for the perfect day-to-night bag!
xx happy hunting!
