A good friend of mine texted me this week and asked for help finding a dress for an upcoming wedding she and her husband are attending. Do you find picking out something to wear for a wedding easy? I can go back and forth, but most of the time I find difficulty in it. I place a high value on adhering well to a theme (if there is one), but also believe an article I read sometime last year that said having a live ticker of our social lives places extra pressure on us to ensure we’re not re-wearing the same thing to events that will eventually be plastered all over our social media pages.
I can understand that mentality, but also I enjoy wearing pieces that I love over and over and over and over…
One of my best friends once said that a small goal in her life was to be able to dress to any dress code (e.g. cocktail, black tie, smart casual, etc.) at the drop of a hat from what was in her closet. I thought that was a really commendable goal because it meant her closet was “complete” in that it was fully functional in all of the ways she could anticipate.
This won’t be a comprehensive post in that way (although I’m curious if that’s something y’all would like!), but I hope it’s a starting point for you in this season’s event wear journey!
~As you may know, buying secondhand can be great when you find something, but it won’t last if you don’t snatch it up! At the time of publication all of these pieces were available, but things may sell out… so don’t let something get away from you if you have your eye on it!~
I love the subtle mock-neck and bias cut skirt on this dress. It has Asian influences, which I think pair beautifully with this time of year when cherry blossom trees begin to bloom and the tulip trees sweeten the air!
Need a little extra flare when you walk in the room? Fringe on a suede jacket is perfect for fall, but fringe on the hem of a dress? Perfect for the spring!
3. One-Shoulder Breezy Green Maxi
This dress feels effortless and perfect for a multitude of occasions: beach wedding? No problem. Garden party? She fits right in. I love the versatility, and I feel like green is really having a moment again. Available in sizes US XS and US S.
I was surprised that this dress wasn’t Farm Rio, because the colors feel evocative of their traditional motifs. All the same, I think it brings a very subtle island-vibe to the party, but the silhouette is classic and refined. Pair with black strappy sandals for contrast, or clear-strap stilettos for miles-long legs!
This buttery-yellow color is trending in 2025, and I think this dress is an excellent example of how you could incorporate it into your wardrobe this year! I love the side cutout detail— sexy without being scandalous.
I don’t think anyone does event dresses better than Self-Portrait!!! Everything I see from them screams event wear and feels like something you want to put on to go be around a lot of people, a party, and a glass of bubbly champagne!
7. Stunning ‘Perfect Couple’ Maxi Dress
Did anyone else binge watch this show? We did on our honeymoon, and I had laughed when I saw this dress in the show because my Matron of Honor and I considered something similar for her at the beginning stages of planning bridesmaids dresses. Ultimately, we went with very different dresses, but this will always be a special silhouette to me!
Looking for something that will cover the arms and ward off the chill? This short sleeve silk option would be a great contender! It doesn’t lose any of its youthful spirit through the extra fabric, and the poppy red can be worn in multiple seasons!
I’m always a sucker for a jumpsuit, and this is no exception! If you’re looking for something other than a dress, this simple black option leans a little more formal because of the material but would be nice for those cooler spring days.
Are you into bubble skirts? I was just chatting about them with a friend of mine and didn’t realize how strong their comeback was! I like the extra detail on this one with the polka dots— it makes the bubble skirt seem less severe and more like a flounce skirt.
If you liked this post, please consider sharing with your friends, leaving me a comment to tell me what you’re eyeing for spring, or sharing my content on social media! I’m so grateful for each and every one of you!
xx happy hunting!
