Friday Finds: Classic Spring Staples Under $300

It’s been a few weeks since I wrote a Friday Finds, and honestly? I just have not had it in me to play the content game lately.

We traveled to Puerto Rico for a few days at the end of February— which was amazing and SO beautiful!— but coming back left me longing for warmer weather and it took about a week for Virginia to catch up. After that, well, I was just trying to stay outside, with friends, or otherwise active and away from my phone and computer as much as possible. I wasn’t super successful on that last part (a millennial… addicted to her phone? Color me shocked!), but I made an effort all the same.

Ultimately, I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired or motivated; everything that I was seeing online felt like the same thing repeated over and over and over again— none of it was appealing to me, even though the big push lately in fashion’s aesthetic is “classic,” “timeless,” and “quality,” which are all things I value in style. But I realized that it didn’t appeal to me because everything felt like today’s version of classic. Not truly classic. Not a 100% cotton cardigan from L.L. Bean in the early 90s kind of classic.

So I started looking at things outside fashion that inspired me— homewares, design, creators who had really specific niche topics to discuss. And I realized I had a few things I always looked for and looked forward to wearing, of which I’ve included a few of below. They’re styles, cuts, colors, or materials that I think encapsulate just a small portion of what is truly classic and timeless. Simple lines. Relatively unfussy (but not boring!). And in the most beautiful Monet-esque colors!

So, without further ado and with finds on The Real Real finally looking promising again (yay!) it’s time for Friday Finds…

1. Soft Green Crewneck Sweater

Yesterday it was 82 degrees and Mitch and I both felt heat sick by mid-afternoon (we’re so weak now…); today, it was 32 degrees when he got home from work and it was snowing!!!! SNOWING! So, it’s not time to put those sweaters away yet, girl friend! Pull ‘em back out! And while you’re at it, get this gorgeous spring (or fall— it’ll be great in both seasons) green sweater from Sézane.

2. Wide Floral Scarf

I thought this was going to be a little twilly when I saw it on The Real Real, but they have it spread out and tied like a blouse! It must be much bigger than the page has it listed, but I’m not complaining; it’s absolutely gorgeous and the colors are perfect for spring. Wear this with the cardigan mentioned below, cream denim, and a pair of simple flats! Easy and comfortable from now through Easter!

3. Silk Button Down

Everyone needs a classic silk blouse, and this blue is what I affectionately call “blonde blue.”

Basically, every blonde (blonde with light eyes especially) I know looks good in this color. Every. single. one. I don’t know if brunettes with dark eyes have a color like this that has the same light-reflecting properties and is so universally flattering… but if I find it, I’ll let y’all know.

The scarf from #2 would also look killer with this top + white cropped pants + raffia loafers. Stubbs & Wootton usually have a bunch listed on TRR.

4. Mini Leather Crossbody Bag

Sometimes you just need a simple little crossbody bag. This is she.

No need to make things complicated with pattern, color, or frills. This bag is here to be inter-changable thanks to the ballet-pink leather; convenient with the shoulder strap; and stylish with an on-season simplicity.

It’s giving Chanel for less!

5. Floral Loafers

Aren’t these absolutely darling?! I love a fun shoe— always have, always will— but usually they’re some sort of funky heel which can make them impractical for everyday wear.

These loafers are perfect for busy SAHMs, office commutes, or weekend brunches. If you want to really give them a place to shine, try them with the sweater from #1, a pair of medium wash jeans cropped to the ankle, and a dusty blue scarf (like this insanely gorgeous one from The Clearly Collective) to tie it all together.

6. Shirred Balloon-Sleeve Blouse

Some may say peplum is dead, but I think this blouse is too sweet to ever be forgotten! Paired with the scarf in #2, a pair of wide leg silk pants, and a great pair of cat-eye sunglasses, you’d turn what others might call out-of-date into a new fashion trend.

That’s what classics are all about, right? Being able to move through trend cycles with ease— confident that your wardrobe serves you well? This blouse may be that addition for you!

7. Paisley Print Silk Scarf

Are you a scarf girl or no? I definitely am, even though I own only one! How? I don’t know. But I love a good scarf. I think they’re incredibly versatile, fun, spunky, and yet maintain an incredible sense of serene, classic charm. They add balance to outfits, and color when needed. And, if you’re like me and don’t wear a lot of jewelry, they’re a great way to add a little something something to your outfit.

8. Alpaca-Blend Cardigan

This cardigan is the OG for a reason. It’s essentially seasonless— something you can wear almost year round—, has an incredibly chic neckline with the ballet neck, and is known to be incredibly comfortable. Some say it can be a bit itchy, so if you’re sensitive to alpaca, that might be a consideration.

Just a note: this isn’t the best cardigan to layer a button down under— the neckline is too wide!

9. Leather Top Handle Bag

By now, you’ve probably figured out that I absolutely adore top handle bags. Specifically and especially if they’re roughly 20cm x 16cm x 10cm (those are the measurements of the infamous Mini Kelly, which I think is a perfect size for a lady bag!).

This Coach bag is beautiful in shape alone, but I think the color takes the cake! It’s a great addition to any spring wardrobe and I think it pairs perfectly with the paisley scarf from #7.

10. Low Heel Raffia Pumps

I bought a similar pair of pumps to these two springs ago and was so surprised how versatile they were! I thought they would inevitably be a very Easter-leaning shoe, but they’re great through the summer as well! They’re great with midi dresses, mini dresses, or even a pair of cropped bootcut jeans!

Wear these pumps with a mini dress for a way to make things feel a little more formal without getting heat stroke in a pair of all leather pumps.

Fingers crossed we’re looking towards more warm weather… and not more surprise snow! If you’re particularly interested in any of these items, I’d love to know how you’d style it in the comments below!

xx happy hunting!
