While it feels like aperol spritzes and watermelon were on the menu just moments ago, stuffing, gravies, and turkey are just around the corner! Both Mitch and I grew up with small Thanksgiving celebrations with immediate family, but since moving to Virginia, I’ve been blessed to celebrate with some of my extended family, which has given me Thanksgiving dinners with 30+ people! It’s sometimes really intimidating thinking that there will be so many people eating in one room— how my aunt hosts and cooks it all, I have no idea! I’ll get to introduce Mitch to this big celebration this year, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to do so!
I always enjoy time with family, and it’s a great excuse for someone like me who works from home to be able to dress up a little bit! There’s something about the holidays that makes theme-dressing really fun, or at least getting a feel for that transitional time where things are cozy, warm, festive, and fun!
On the flip side, as someone who likes to shop small, buy secondhand, and rewear pieces multiple times over (the number of things in my closet I’ve held onto far past their prime is exceptionally large), it can be incredibly overwhelming for me to try to “keep up” or be in a constant state of “buying.” I, like many of you, strive to feel complete with my wardrobe, and dressing for the holidays often leaves me feeling lesser-than because I want to shop new trends and feel “in,” which can also lead to me feeling less like myself and more like the trend I’m dressing for.
It’s been helpful for me to put together little capsules instead of individual looks, because it leaves all the necessary room for creativity! Not everyone’s uniform looks exactly the same, even if their wardrobes contain the same pieces, so I figured you might like to see those ideas more consistently presented that way (please let me know if you like this format or prefer something else! I’m always open to feedback on what helps you the most or brings you joy to read about!). Take pieces from each set to mix and match them, wear pieces you already have in your closet in a similar way, or find a piece that you’ve been on the hunt for and wear it non-stop for the next week! The best part about these small capsules, in my opinion, is their ability to look great through the autumn seasons and festivities— from Friendsgiving to hayrides, there’s something to fit every bit of life that’s ours to live!
So let’s talk Thanksgiving (or Friendsgiving) outfits!:
