Friday Finds: Inspiration from Everyday Experiences

Originally, I was thinking I wouldn’t even do a Friday Finds post today. I’ve been incredibly demotivated this week, plagued by what I ultimately know is barely a blip of dissatisfaction in the grand scheme of life, but felt like a damning judgement on my style, ability to shop, and my value as someone who feels like they know a good deal.

What am I talking about?

A pair of Chanel flats that I found on Poshmark at a steal price. They needed a resoling and looked a little warped— nothing, I believed, a cobbler couldn’t fix. Well, as someone who always wants “the lowest price possible,” I dug myself into a hole, offering the seller $10 less than the winning bid, even though I had told myself I should up my bid… bygones be bygones, but it still stung. Shopping secondhand means great wins and harrowing losses. It means carefully navigating not putting your entire self-worth in how cheaply you can find quality items. That’s a lesson I’m still learning…

As I wept over these lost flats (and subsequently scoured the internet for another pair in my size, to no avail…), I thought about how I perceived myself and what I bring to the table. I felt like, with another door slammed in my face, that I didn’t belong on social media— or anywhere on the internet— talking about fashion. I couldn’t even buy shoes well, for crying out loud! But I realized that it was because I felt too “niched down;” I felt stuck— trapped— by fashion. There are so many other things that inspire me, motivate me, and push me into states of creativity. I’d like to be more mindful to share those things both here on this blog and on my Instagram, sharing all of the items I see that speak beauty into the world, from fashion to homewares to art.

~As you may know, buying secondhand can be great when you find something, but it won’t last if you don’t snatch it up! At the time of publication all of these pieces were available, but things may sell out… so don’t let something get away from you if you have your eye on it!~

I thought I would start by sharing a few outfits inspired by rooms I’ve had saved on my Pinterest for a very long time! They’re rooms that bring me peace but also make me feel happy and inspired, motivated, and moved! They’re places I feel like intense work would be done, tasty cocktails shared, or warm coffee sipped over the newspaper.

I hope these looks inspire you like they’ve inspired me (all featuring my favorite new denim)!
