Hi friends,
I don’t know about you, but historically, I’ve been a huge homebody on New Year’s Eve! Maybe I’ll go for a walk during the day, get an early drink somewhere, etc., but typically, I’ll end the day watching a movie, the NYC countdown, and trying to catch fireworks from my living room.
This year is a little different: my fiancé will be in town, so we’re itching to get out and experience a little bit of the holiday! I was planning to put together a post full of sparkly dresses and heels, but who am I kidding? We’ll get a drink and then head for the couch to watch a movie (My vote is for The Thin Man, a pre-Code mystery-comedy that two dear friends of mine love so much!).
These looks include heels, but I’ll kick those off as soon as possible and throw on my favorite Birdies slippers.
– Although we’ve been eating sweets ALL week, I know I’ll still have an itch for baking some cookies— especially these amazing rum balls I made for the first time just before Christmas! This confetti sweater would be perfect to match some sprinkled sugar cookies! I’d pair it with straight-leg corduroy pants for the winter weather and a block heel if I’m feeling dressy (or nude flats if I’m not).
– For a more casual look (my favorite), I’d throw on jeans like this tapered pair from Everlane with a warm chunky navy cardigan. I haven’t found “the perfect one,” but I’m looking for a white tee that I can use for layering in a look like this. Virginia can unexpectedly be super cold in the winter, and I like to wear a layer underneath to best take care of my cardigans and wool sweaters. I’d opt for two-tone slingbacks (these Chanel dupes are the dupes) to elevate, or just stick with woolen knit socks around the house if we plan to stay cozy!
– At some point in the night we’ll think, “We should go do something fun!” and maybe head to my favorite cocktail bar. You know I’ll want to throw on something a little special…! Now that the viral Mango shearling coat comes in black, I’m tempted to do an all-black look for an evening out. Allison Bornstein has a great pair of ultra-flare pants that I’ve been lusting over, and I love the silhouette of these items paired together! I’m not usually a mule heel girl, but these are so 90s, and I’m loving that look right now!
– I’ve been avoiding the GAP viral striped sweater because I thought it would drown me, but I love the look of it, and it really is so flattering with the high-cut vent on the side! As a texture play, I’d pair it with leather pants (I love the J. Crew slim wide version SO much!) and either the two-tone slingbacks or silver Mary Janes. This is such a great in-between outfit to me because it really depends on the shoe whether or not it’s going to be dressy or casual! You could even throw on a pair of sneakers to dress it down even more for a third variation.
Even Mitch commented that these are “such versatile looks,”— if the guy in your life is saying that and calling pieces “staples,” then it must be true, right?! It sounds like we’re definitely grabbing a few items as post-Christmas presents for me!
Happy hunting, ladies xx
